Prayerful presence at Interfaith Prayer Vigil for immigration detention
More than 60 of us from Unity on the Bay, joined by members of several other faith communities, came together at the Everglades immigration detention center on Sunday, August 17, carrying with us deep compassion and hope. In the face of hardship and uncertainty, we stood united, offering a peaceful and prayerful presence. Rev. Juan’s heartfelt words moved us, leading us gently into the Prayer for Protection, a moment of shared strength and solace. This gathering is more than an event, it is a continuation of our commitment. Years ago, we stood together outside detention centers as families were torn apart, and today, we stand with the same resolve, reminding those inside that they are not alone and that our community holds them in our hearts and prayers.
We believe in the sacred worth of all people. We believe in the power of unity. We believe all people merit being treated with compassion, understanding and dignity, regardless of immigration status.
In times like these, we ask, what would our Master Teacher, Jesus, do? His words in Matthew 25:40 guide our response: “‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.’
From this awareness, we call for the humane and just treatment of all immigrants, documented and undocumented. We pray that every immigrant be granted the rights, protections, and care that are guaranteed by our Constitution and demanded by our collective conscience. Unity on the Bay calls upon our community and all communities of faith to rise in prayerful action. Let us stand together for justice and compassion. Let us, with courage and love, uphold the truth that we are one human family worthy of God’s peace.
