What is the Fall SpiritGroups Program all about?
The Fall SpiritGroup Program is a seven-week small group journey to consciously deepen our awareness of our own courage and strength while creating friendships and bonds that can last a lifetime. The program is a unique combination of Sunday messages, meditations and in-home book study groups focused on seven themes drawn a book yet to be determined. Past book study's have included Daring Greatly by Dr. Brene Brown, Peace is the Way by Deepak Chopra, In the Flow of Life by Eric Butterworth and many more.
This year, the SpiritGroups Council has chosen the book "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Combining Toltec mythology and scientific perspectives, don Miguel has been able to merge ancient wisdom with modern physics and practical common-sense, forging a new philosophy for seekers of truth and personal authenticity. His landmark bestselling book, The Four Agreements, contains practical steps for long-term, personal transformation and has been read by millions around the world.
First published in 1997, The Four Agreements has since sold over six million copies in the United States and seven million worldwide. It has been translated into 40 languages, appeared on the New York Times bestseller for nearly ten years
What are in-home study groups?
Home study groups are a gathering of about 4-10 people that provides a sacred space for our spiritual community to connect with each other on a more personal basis as they discuss the week's readings and reflections. In addition, it provides small groups of like-minded people the opportunity to pray, learn and study together as we each deepen our understanding of spiritual principles. Groups will meet once a week for 7 weeks and will also have the opportunity to do community service together.
What is a Facilitator and Host?
A facilitator is the person who guides the group discussions through the weekly guided inquiry. The individual maintains an open heart and attends a 2-hour training session at Unity on the Bay to feel comfortable and be prepared to lead their group. A host is the individual who agrees to open their home/space so that a small group can come together on a weekly basis, and creates and maintain sacred space. Although our preference is that the Facilitator and Host be the same individual, we can support Facilitators and Hosts connecting to support each other in creating this small group gathering.
From August 12 through August 26, we will be recruiting volunteers who want to be a faciliator and/or host (read above for more info) and those individuals will go through a training on either August 26 at 1pm or August 28 at 7pm. Once we have enough Faciliators and Hosts, we will start the second step. Use the botton below if you want to request to be a faciliator and/or host and someone from our team will contact you. You can also visit our table on Sunday mornings in the Foyer on August 12 and August 26 if you don't want to register online.
Once all Faciliators and Hosts are in place, we will then be filling groups with participates. This starts around September 9th. You will be able to search and join a Spirit group here on this webpage (once it is updated on Sept. 9th) and/or at our table on Sunday mornings during services on September 9, 16, and 23.
